Tess is a story about women silenced and surviving. It is a story about our relationship with our environment and our families. Brought to life with live music, dance, and animated storytelling, Tess explores how Hardy’s controversial tale of a “pure woman” translates today.
(CW: sexual assault)
Tess was first performed in Trinity College Dublin’s Rose Garden in May 2019, marking Gift Horse Theatre's debut. This August, Gift Horse are taking Tess to a number of gardens in the South East. Each performance will be on an intimate scale with social distancing in place for audience members. Please be aware that there are limited seats available, and do not hesitate to email if you have any special requirements so that we may accommodate you. There will be some picnic blankets provided, but we also encourage you to bring your own, or picnic chairs if you have any.
Gift Horse Theatre is a Dublin-based theatre company that creates innovative, forward-thinking, environmentally-conscious theatre. Gift Horse breathes new life into stories past and present with a bold, fresh style that incorporates dance, new music, puppetry, and lively storytelling. Gift Horse is a member of the Staging
Change network and is passionate about creating theatre that respects and celebrates our natural environment.
Babylon Radio review for Tess: “One of the best ways to be introduced to a literary classic [...] an upcoming theatre company filled with talent.”
